Badges are ussually representative of some kind of assosiation, worn by persons, animals and things associated to some person, houshold, family, companie, or other thing.

This is my badge The PBS badge The Babylon 5 badge the NASA badge The CBC badge The Subway badge badge The United Federation of planets badge

Oftan the members of a houshold will wear the badge of the household to show their association

Also companions of an Order may wear the badge of the order so too the recipients of other awards from Kings, Princesses and Barons, most aawards have a badge.
