The Heater Shield Shape
This is the shape of an Heater, or Shield. For many the most important aspects of heraldry is this shape on which the heraldry is placed.

To draw an heater, draw the top line then draw lines down from the ends which are one third the length of the top line. Using the ends of the two vertical line as center points and draw arcs down from the points opposit, and where the two arcs meet is the bottom of the heater. There are period references to the chief being a row of three squares surmounting an equalateral triangle which looks like this heater to the right.
These are the primary regions of the shield as prescribed in heraldry.

Dexter side is the left side of the shield
Sinister side is the right side of the shield
Chief is the area at the top of the shield
Base is the area at the bottom of the shield
Dexter chief is the area at the top left of the shield
Sinister chief is the area at the top right of the shield
Middle chief is the area at the center top of the shield
Dexter base is the area of the lower left of the shield
Sinister base is the area of the lower right of the shield
Middle base is the area of the shield
Honour point is the upper center point of the shield
Fess point is the center point of the shield
Nombril of Navel point is the lower center point of the shield

The Sides are
Dexter side is the left side of the shield
Sinister side is the right side of the shield

In Chief are
Chief is the area at the top of the shield
Dexter chief is the area at the top left of the shield
Sinister chief is the area at the top right of the shield
Middle chief is the area at the center top of the shield

In Base are
Base is the area at the bottom of the shield
Dexter base is the area of the lower left of the shield
Sinister base is the area of the lower right of the shield
Middle base is the area of the shield

The Points are
Honour point is the upper center point of the shield
Fess point is the center point of the shield
Nombril of Navel point is the lower center point of the shield
