An upward turn of the brim of a hat or cap. The word applied to the angle of tilt, also to the peak or brim. An eighteenth and nineteenth-century term. (See Hat, tricorne.) Cod, cod-piece A cod was a bag. In the eighteenth century it became a slang term for purse.
